How we remanufacture laptops
1. Initial inspection
Each laptop is assessed on arrival for physical condition and suitability for remanufacturing. Units that do not meet required standards are either returned to suppliers or processed as B-grade.
2. Hardware testing
Every unit undergoes detailed hardware testing using Aiken Workbench. All components are tested, audited, and recorded to ensure accuracy, performance, and consistency.
3. Operating system installation
Windows is installed and updated to the latest feature release, currently Windows 11 25H2. Business-grade units are installed with Windows 11 Pro and checked for full driver functionality.
4. Cleaning and disassembly
Each unit is cleaned internally and externally to identify defects and remove contamination. Devices requiring disassembly are carefully taken apart as part of the remanufacturing process.
5. Cosmetic inspection and repair
Laptops are inspected for cosmetic damage such as scratches or dents. All issues are rectified using as many of the original parts as possible to minimise waste. Where this is not practical, components like lids, palm rests etc are replaced.
6. Cosmetic remanufacturing
All external surfaces are refinished using a comprehensive vinyl technique – the actual finish is unique to RD-UK & has contributed to our compliance as a BSI accredited remanufacturer. Bases are also colour-matched for consistency. Keyboards are reprinted to UK layout standards. Custom branding is applied where specified.
7. Reassembly and inspection
Devices are carefully reassembled and checked for correct fit, alignment, and finish before progressing to software testing.
8. Windows software testing
Units complete a full suite of functional tests within Windows, confirming drivers, activation, BIOS updates, and removal of any existing Intune profiles.
9. Quality assurance
Each laptop undergoes a final inspection, with new CPU and Microsoft GMRL designation labels, before being sealed.
10. Environmentally focused packaging
Devices are packed using recyclable materials and supplied with tested chargers and cables. Each box includes a specification label showing the serial number and hardware details.
