What does BSI certified remanufacturing mean?

Resource Development (UK) Ltd takes pride in being  BSI certified, a mark of excellence that ensures every device we remanufacture meets rigorous standards of quality, reliability, and performance. Technology is integral to education, business, and daily life across the UK and having access to affordable, high-performing IT equipment is essential. Our remanufacturing process breathes new life into laptops, desktops, and all-in-one PCs, offering a sustainable alternative to buying new. By choosing us, you’re not just saving money; you’re investing in a greener future.

BSI standards and “equal to or better than new” criteria

BSI certification confirms that our remanufacturing processes comply with BS 8887-220 and BS 8887-211, ensuring that every device is produced to a condition that is equal to or better than new. This standard defines clear expectations for quality, durability, and consistency across all remanufactured hardware. Devices must feature perfect screens free from blemishes or wear marks, damage-free exteriors, and thorough internal and external cleaning. Components are replaced to OEM specification where required, keyboards are reprinted for a like-new finish, and desktop units are refinished back to ‘as new’ condition. All chargers and power cables are electrically tested and quality assured, with RMA rates maintained in line with or below, manufacturer specifications. Custom-designed and branded units are also certified to these same BSI standards.

How certified remanufacturing works

At Resource Development (UK) Ltd, remanufacturing is more than just refurbishment. It’s a meticulous process that involves replacing worn components, upgrading key hardware, and ensuring every device is optimised for modern use. From clean operating system installations to custom branding and configuration, we tailor each device to meet the specific needs of schools, businesses, and organisations. Every step is aligned with BSI standards, ensuring consistent quality and reliability. Our multi-stage testing guarantees that each device performs like new, backed by a minimum 12-month warranty for peace of mind.

Our certified remanufacturing process

Our certified remanufacturing process

Each device follows a clearly defined remanufacturing process aligned with BSI standards, from arrival through to secure packaging.

Initial inspection

Each unit is assessed on arrival for physical damage and overall condition. Devices unsuitable for remanufacturing are identified at this stage and separated for alternative grading or return.

Hardware testing

All systems undergo structured hardware testing using Aiken Workbench to check components, audit specifications, and record performance data accurately.

OS installation

Windows is installed and updated to the latest supported feature release. Required drivers are deployed to ensure full system functionality.

Windows software testing

Systems are tested within the Windows environment to confirm activation, driver integrity, BIOS updates, and system stability before progression.

Internal and external cleaning

Each unit is cleaned internally and externally to reduce contamination, support inspection, and prepare surfaces for cosmetic work.

Cosmetic inspection and repair

Units are inspected for dents, scratches, or cracks. Repairs are completed where possible, including chassis component replacement when required.

Cosmetic remanufacturing

Desktop units are masked and resprayed to restore a consistent finish that closely matches the original appearance.

Quality assurance

Final inspection, re-cleaning, and refurbishment labelling are completed to confirm condition, appearance, and functionality.

Environmentally focused packaging

Each unit is securely packaged using recyclable materials and supplied with a power cable (and charger for laptops) and full specification label.
